Insomniac tried to explain that Logan in Marvel's Wolverine doesn't always smell "Jean Grey's gases," but failed
The controversial mechanic has already become the subject of many jokes.
A discussion has erupted around Marvel's Wolverine regarding one of its navigation features — visual scent trails that Logan can see thanks to his super senses. Many critics disliked that the game literally "holds their hand". The Washington Post reviewer even called this trail "Jean Grey's intestinal gases".
When asked by a user on social media why scent trails cannot be disabled with a separate accessibility setting, Insomniac Games Community and Marketing Director James Stevenson explained the purpose of the mechanic. According to him, the trails represent Wolverine's canonical super senses and outstanding tracking abilities.
The scent trail is not always on. It only appears when Logan is tracking a specific scent or sound — a person, whiskey, or another clue. This happens during certain story and mission moments, as well as when the hero smells a collectible.
However, players did not accept this explanation. People believe that such indicators should not be present in a linear game, and that developers should not consider people mentally deficient.
Why even add hidden secrets to the game if you can easily find them by scent later?
Do you think we lack critical thinking? Or is this just another example of Netflix game design, aimed at the mentally deficient?
