Viktor ZaycevThe young director turned out to be a big fan of Valve's work.
At the Japanese premiere of "The Backrooms," Kane Parsons said that Valve's games largely shaped his approach to space, which later proved useful in creating the feature film:
"I grew up on Valve games: Portal, Portal 2, and Half-Life. I think my relationship with space in Portal and its sequel defined a lot. I spent years dissecting files and building my own levels, just working within the Source engine. Many of my artistic principles, such as objects falling through the floor, or terminology like noclip, are common in games, but my personal introduction to all of this came specifically through Valve games."
In the film itself, Parsons also left several direct references to Portal:
"You'll see one or two completely obvious references. I couldn't resist such a creative crossover."
