Mike Flanagan's new "The Mist" will significantly diverge from Frank Darabont's version
The director expects to finish the script for the new adaptation of Stephen King's "The Mist" by Halloween.
Mike Flanagan spoke about working on a new adaptation of Stephen King's novella "The Mist". The director is already writing the script and expects to submit the finished version to Warner Bros. around Halloween.
According to Flanagan, the new film will be strikingly different from Frank Darabont's "The Mist", released in 2007:
"The differences start on the very first page. I'm working on the script now".
Flanagan highly rates Darabont's film and sees no point in remaking it. For the new adaptation, the director chose a different direction, but has not yet revealed the details:
"I love Darabont's film, and remaking it is completely pointless. So I'm moving in a different direction".
In parallel, Flanagan is also working on other projects. His series "Carrie" will begin airing on Prime Video on October 9, and the director is currently filming a new version of "The Exorcist", scheduled for release in March 2027.
Flanagan also continues to work on the large-scale adaptation of "The Dark Tower" cycle. According to him, the work is constantly moving forward, although due to the size of the story, production costs, and the complex situation with rights, it is doing so "at the speed of an oil tanker."
There is no release date for the new "The Mist" yet.
