"Sam was the villain." This is what Amy Hennig's Uncharted 4 game should have looked like

Uncharted 4: A Thief's End could have been very different from the final game: in Amy Hennig's early version, Sam Drake was supposed to be the villain and looked completely different.

Former Naughty Dog employee Matt Radford worked at the studio during Hennig's project development and saw its early version.

Amy had her version of the game, which I saw, and it didn't have the same characters. Sam was in it, but he was a completely different guy. The game was completely different – Sam was the villain.

There were many more changes. Sam was supposed to be played by a different actor, and the project was in its early stages. Radford even recalls a demo version for project approval that ran on a computer at only one frame per second.

Hennig left Naughty Dog in 2014, after which Uncharted 4's development was continued by Neil Druckmann and Bruce Straley. Radford doesn't believe that one version was necessarily better than the other:

But Uncharted 4 was amazing. So you can't blame Neil and Bruce for their vision, because I loved that game and the story they created.

Radford would also like to see Hennig return to a major game:

I just want to see her return. When will we get her games? She is truly talented.
