From Spider-Man to Star Wars: Jon Watts to Direct Episode X - Media

Jon Watts, who directed three Spider-Man films starring Tom Holland, will take the director's chair for the first film of the new Star Wars trilogy. This is not Watts' first experience working with Lucasfilm: he previously co-wrote the series "Star Wars: Skeleton Crew" and directed two of its episodes.

However, the information from the two publications that first reported on Watts differs somewhat. According to Knight Edge Media, the director is in negotiations with Lucasfilm, while sources at The Hollywood Reporter claim he is already attached to the project.

Simon Kinberg has been working on the script for the new trilogy since late 2024. The plot will return to the main Skywalker saga, with the tenth episode expected to be the first film. According to insiders, Rey Skywalker, played by Daisy Ridley, will appear in some capacity in the new trilogy, but the extent of her role is not yet known.

Sources at The Hollywood Reporter also report that the project has not yet received Disney's approval, but its development has progressed further than other films after "Star Wars: Rogue Squadron". Shawn Levy's film starring Ryan Gosling will be released on May 28, 2027, and filming for the presumed tenth episode could begin in the same year.
