Director David Leitch (“Bullet Train”) revealed in a recent interview with ScreenRant that the first draft of the Gears of War adaptation script is ready, and expressed hope that the film will kick off new stories within the franchise universe:
“I think everyone is excited about the potential of this franchise as a cinematic universe, and we are really thrilled about it as well. Hopefully, everything will start coming together soon. That’s about all I can share. I wish I could say more, because there’s so much exciting stuff happening.”
The script was written by Jon Spaihts, who worked on “Dune” and “Prometheus”. It was previously reported that the film would tell the story of the formation of Delta Squad — Marcus Fenix’s team fighting against the Locust. Whether the plot will be connected to the recently released prequel Gears of War: E-Day, dedicated to young Marcus and Dom, is still unknown — the remaining plot details and the cast have not yet been revealed.
Netflix announced the adaptation back in November 2022. In addition to the live-action movie, the streaming service plans to release an adult animated series. However, when the project will reach the film set, let alone screens, is still unknown.
