«Pointless and Unachievable»: Lead Skyblivion Developer Doubts 2025 Release Possibility and Talks About Organizational Problems

Not all Skyblivion authors are happy with how the ambitious project is being managed.

Several years ago, the authors of Skyblivion — a remake of The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion on the TES V Skyrim engine — announced that they intended to release the project in 2025. One of the lead developers considers this decision a "huge mistake."

Modder Dee Keyz talked about organizational problems in the Skyblivion team. According to him, the release date announcement was premature and caused by the fact that another team member, Heavy Burns, who is responsible for producing videos, simply didn't want to "shoot another trailer unless it's a trailer with a release date."

According to the developer, the team began to be rushed with the release, and "over the past 2-3 years, Skyblivion has turned from a labor of love into a crunch project. Before, we explored options and put our heart and soul into every aspect of development, and now we are constantly told that nothing special is needed, or that \"no one will notice it\". It became increasingly difficult to talk to [project leader] Rebel about problems or how few developers are informed about decisions made by management."

Keyz believes that Rebel and Heavy Burns are pushing the team for the sake of a "pointless and unachievable release date."

Some members of the Skyblivion team have already reacted to Keyz's publication, for example, Novarleeir spoke out: "Discussions will be held on the issues raised. At the moment, the goal is to release in 2025."

PR manager Evan T. Flatt stated: "Skyblivion will be released when the team is confident in it, our goal is to prepare the project for release this year."
