The new horror game Cling to Blindness is developed by Lizardry, known for Refind Self: The Personality Test Game, and will be released on Steam in 2025.
While many horror games use darkness to hide dangers, Lizardry's new game almost completely abandons graphics in favor of sound design. Players will take on the role of a girl named Satsuki and must use their hearing to navigate through the ruins of an abandoned village to complete a ritual.
To perform the ritual, three rules must be followed: do not remove the blindfold, do not let Ashito (an unknown pursuing creature) catch you, and collect five talismans.
The sounds of bells indicate the location of the talismans, and Ashito's footsteps warn of an approaching threat. The gameplay is based on approaching the bells while avoiding Ashito's footsteps.
Even with minimal graphics, the developers advise playing with a blindfold: the menu and screen can be distracting, and the ending may be revealed ahead of time. Good headphones are necessary to accurately determine the source of sounds. The controls are in first person: moving the mouse changes the direction of view, left click moves forward.
Cling to Blindness does not have classic screamers, the horror is based exclusively on sound, which will be appreciated by those who do not like traditional horror. The game promises 1–1.5 hours of exploration with an unusual approach to fear.
Cling to Blindness will be released on PC (Steam) in 2025.
