After the failure of Battlefield 2042, DICE needed a success. Judging by the results of the open beta test, Battlefield 6 may be up to the task. Although questions remain about the cosmetics, the number of players and reviews show that the game will be a hit at launch in October.
The developers previously noted that Battlefield 6 is a return to the series' roots, with strong inspiration from the most popular installments, 3 and 4. But what exactly went wrong with Battlefield 2042, besides the performance issues? The game had low activity even after the bugs were fixed.
In an interview, producer Jeremy Chubb explained the reasons for the failure of 2042 and the success of the 6th installment.
"For us, 2042 was a very ambitious project, with maps for up to 128 players and an even larger scale. But for many players, it didn't provide the familiar feeling."
For the new game, the developers returned to aspects that fans liked in the 3rd and 4th installments. The open beta test confirmed that the formula works: hundreds of thousands of participants left positive feedback.
"The energy from the audience is incredible right now, and it feels very different than it did with 2042," Chubb added. He emphasized that the team worked closely with the community through Battlefield Labs, which allowed them to take feedback into account and make Battlefield 6 as appealing as possible.
"There are many passionate Battlefield fans, and working with them is of great value," the producer concluded.
