Over the years, Mojang Studios' vision of some things has changed.
Recently, the developers of Minecraft presented a short documentary. Creative Director Jens Bergensten spoke about the Creeper — a famous hostile mob that sneaks up on the player and explodes.
He said that Creepers would hardly be added to Minecraft now; the problem lies in their destructive ability:
«If we followed our principles today, we probably wouldn't add the Creeper. Because it is contradictory: it is a monster that could suddenly appear and destroy what you have built».
Jens explained that Minecraft is a game about creation, the threat of destruction must always be present, but the Mojang team wants to limit the ability to take anything away from the player:
«Whenever you add something destructive to the game, you need to test it with players and make sure the level of destruction is right».
In his opinion, the game should not be too "punishing" (harsh), otherwise players will not feel comfortable in the game world.
Minecraft Creeper fans were reassured: the "iconic character" will not be removed.
