Microsoft is facing a serious problem. The October update for Windows 11 25H2 contains a critical bug that can effectively "kill" the computer.
The error makes it impossible to use the keyboard and mouse in the system recovery environment (WinRE). This means that repairing or resetting the PC after a failure becomes almost impossible.
The problem is related to the KB5066835 patch released on October 14, 2025. Instead of improving security, it completely disrupted the Windows Recovery Environment, a tool responsible for launching recovery, rolling back updates, and accessing the BIOS. After installing the update, USB mice and keyboards stop working in WinRE.
Microsoft has already confirmed the existence of the error. The company stated that "the failure only affects USB devices in WinRE after the update from October 14" and promises to fix it in the coming days. But for users with locked PCs, this is little consolation.
The only solution is to connect devices via old PS/2 ports, which are almost non-existent on modern motherboards. Experts advise not to install the update until Microsoft releases a fix.
