Metroid Prime series producer Kensuke Tanabe mentioned the second installment of the series in the book Metroid Prime 1–3: A Visual Retrospective, sparking rumors about a possible return of the game.
His comments concerned the multiplayer mode of Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, and many fans interpreted them as a hint at a remaster or remake of the project.
Tanabe noted that Retro Studios created the multiplayer mode under difficult conditions but managed to maintain the quality of the game. He emphasized that the project was conceived as a local one, so few people had the chance to appreciate it at the time.
Although there have been no official announcements from Nintendo about working on an updated version of Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, the producer's words have sparked speculation that the company may be considering bringing back the classic in an improved form.
