The new The Elder Scrolls is currently in the pre-production stage.
Bethesda Game Studios director Todd Howard confirmed in an interview with GQ that The Elder Scrolls 6 is "still a very long way off" from release.
I preach patience. I don't want fans to feel anxious. I like to just announce a game and release it right away. My ideal scenario is to wait longer, and then one day the game just appears.
When asked if he would like to repeat the sudden release with The Elder Scrolls 6, as with the recent remaster of The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, Howard smiled, calling it a "test run" that went "excellently".
Meanwhile, the studio is actively working on the Fallout series. According to Howard, "hundreds of employees are currently working on Fallout - that's 76 and some other projects." VGC sources clarify that one of these "other projects" is a Fallout 3 remaster, similar to Oblivion: Remastered.
