Horizon Steel Frontiers is a recently announced MMORPG from PlayStation and NCSoft, with release on PC and mobile devices. The release date is still unknown, but details about the development and application of AI have already appeared online.
In an interview with RuliWeb, the developers said that AI helps in creating NPCs: they are tested for collaboration and battles with players. Technologies also help determine the optimal number of players for matches instead of a mass gathering of users. Within NCSoft, AI supports production, from coding to creating art. The developers clarified that AI is implemented "significantly" and will later reveal the technologies used separately.
The team especially wants to use AI, and NCSoft uses it "actively". After the release of Aion 2, a significant increase in the use of AI in games is expected.
The setting is inspired by Arizona and Mexico and is called "Deadlands". The developers plan to emphasize the thematic core of the original, and through the gameplay - elements of resilience and hope. The main idea is "the pleasure of fighting huge machines", expanded in MMO. Players will be able to destroy parts of the equipment, cooperate with each other and mount weapons on carriers. Tribal motifs are also preserved, and advanced character settings will appear: body type, makeup and other details.
