For the market as a whole, this means that the previously expected end of the current DRAM growth cycle in 2027-2028 may be delayed.
South Korean technology giant Samsung is considering entering into multi-year memory supply contracts, offering customers small discounts at the start of the agreements. This move could significantly impact the entire DRAM market in the coming years.
According to sources, the memory industry is currently experiencing unprecedented demand growth: corporate customers are actively purchasing products, which has already led to a sharp increase in contract prices for DRAM. Despite high profits, manufacturers fear that the current hype may end as abruptly as it began.
To reduce risks, Samsung plans to enter into contracts for three and five years. It is assumed that such agreements will allow the company to take into account price changes in advance and smooth out possible market fluctuations. At the same time, it was reported several months ago that the company did not even have the capacity for quarterly contracts - the demand was so high.
The main goal of the new strategy is to gain a long-term understanding of the demand for memory. This will help Samsung not only more accurately predict financial performance, but also plan for production expansion. In turn, customers are offered a small discount from current DRAM prices, which makes long-term purchases more predictable and less risky.
