RAM Crisis to Impact New Game Releases: PS6 and RTX 60 Launch at Risk – Expert
Prices for RAM and NAND flash have risen to "absurd levels," and this will soon affect the cost of electronics, according to Gamers Nexus. The YouTube channel Moore's Law is Dead invited former Micron employee Dave Eggleston to comment.
According to him, the sharp rise in prices is due to the huge demand for HBM chips, which are massively purchased by companies working in the field of generative AI, including OpenAI. Manufacturers cannot keep up with demand.
Eggleston rejects the theory of a deliberate overpricing by Micron, Samsung, and SK Hynix. Gamers Nexus states a possible "collusion of three megacorporations," pointing to Micron's exit from the consumer market.
According to Eggleston's forecast, RAM and NAND flash prices will return to normal only by mid-2027. This will affect the releases of new hardware. Sony may postpone the launch of the PS6, which, according to leaks, is scheduled for 2027. The increase in the cost of VRAM will also affect video cards: the NVIDIA RTX 50 Super series could be canceled, and the RTX 60 will almost certainly be delayed.
