The studio explained that the decision was dictated not by a lack of ideas or financial problems, but simply by fatigue from the Dungeons & Dragons system.
Studio head Sven Vincke stated:
We are happy with what we are doing now, and this is already a step in the right direction, because before we were not inspired by what we created within D&D.
Earlier, Vincke noted:
There were many limitations in the development of D&D, and the Fifth Edition of the system is not easy for video games.
The studio tried different ideas for the combat system, but they did not coincide with the rules of D&D 5e.
Our ambitions are high, we want to innovate. This means that we can fail by trying new things. Let's see where it leads.
The release date of the new Divinity is still unknown, but Larian is considering the possibility of early access.
