Hidetaka Miyazaki Doubts FromSoftware Created the "Souls-like" Genre

Хидетака Миядзаки, геймдиректор серии Dark Souls и Elden Ring, заявил, что не уверен, стоит ли приписывать FromSoftware создание термина «Soulslike».

I know that we are credited with inventing [the term ‘Soulslike’], but from a game design perspective, the idea of death and learning through failure as part of the gameplay cycle is something the audience may have been ready for.
We found that it was okay to create games with death as part of the core gameplay, and our response was successful and appealed to different players. FromSoftware's DNA and our design intersected with something that may have been missing in the market.

The term Soulslike is unlikely to disappear, but it's interesting to see Miyazaki's humble approach to discussing it. Someone else could probably have used difficulty in the same way as in Souls games, but few would have done it as masterfully as FromSoftware.
