Valve takes care of mod fans - Steam Workshop gets a new feature
Now you can submit multiple versions of mods at once and link them to game versions.
Valve recently introduced an update to the Steam Workshop, where players can publish modifications.
It is now possible to add mod compatibility data in the Steam Workshop with previous versions of the game:
New Steam APIs and settings for Steam Workshop items are designed to help game developers and mod authors ensure mod compatibility as the game evolves. The new tools allow developers to better describe previous versions of games, and workshop mod authors to specify version compatibility of their items with game versions.
Once a developer enables this feature for their game, mod authors will be able to specify the versions with which the current and past versions of the mod in the workshop are compatible.
We understand that many authors may not have time to check whether their modification supports the latest version of the game. Therefore, we have created a system with support for ranges that can include or exclude future updates.
If the modification is relatively simple, then the range of supported versions can be left "open". If it is a complex mod and the author wants to test it with new versions of the game before adding information about their support, they can do so when setting up supported ranges.
For each modification, multiple versions can be uploaded to the Steam Workshop.
