The Sims - More Than Just a Game. Maxis is Preparing Several Projects in the Franchise and Assures That the Sale of EA Will Not Affect Its Development
Maxis has revealed plans for the future of The Sims series.
Maxis has shared an updated vision for the future of The Sims. On the official website, the team stated that the franchise is entering a new phase of development: it is now not one game, but a whole family of projects for PC, consoles, and mobile platforms.
More than half of the Maxis team continues to work on The Sims 4 and its future successor - the tentative The Sims 5. The developers promise to share new information in the coming months.
At the same time, Project Rene, which was previously perceived as a possible The Sims 5, is now described as an independent mobile project with an emphasis on collaborative creativity and social interaction.
Also in 2026, Maxis plans to continue internal testing of several new products under the general brand The Sims Labs. We are talking about early prototypes with different concepts and experimental mechanics. Not all of them will reach release, but the studio emphasizes that it is these experiments that help to find the best solutions for the development of the series.
Separately, Maxis commented on the situation surrounding the sale of Electronic Arts to a consortium of investors led by the sovereign wealth fund of Saudi Arabia. According to the studio, the deal will not affect the values of the franchise: the team retains full creative control and will continue to be guided by"principles of inclusivity, freedom of choice, creativity, community and play".

Meanwhile, The Sims 4, apparently, is preparing for a major "royal" addition Royalty & Legacy - itspresentation is expected on January 15. In addition, according torumors, Maxis and Electronic Arts are working on The Sims 4 Remastered - an updated version of the base game.
