Sony is preparing PS6 Canis with GeForce RTX 3050 performance - insider
Sony is simultaneously developing two new generation consoles - the classic PS6 and a portable version with low power consumption. According to insider Kepler_L2, PS6 Canis (working title) will receive a chip focused on energy efficiency rather than maximum computing power.
Comparison with Intel Panther Lake mobile processors shows that at 15W, Canis will be able to deliver performance close to a 30W Panther Lake. Rumor has it that in games, the portable console will be comparable to the mobile GeForce RTX 3050 - enough to run games from PS5 in an economical mode with smooth FPS and acceptable image quality.
Existing AMD solutions are either weaker or too hot and power-hungry for the portable PS6. Sony plans to use an MDSH-Mini chip on RDNA5 with 24 compute units, which will not appear until 2027. For Canis, the priority is not teraflops, but long battery life and stable operation.
