According to Tom Warren, journalist and senior editor at The Verge, Microsoft is preparing a free version of Xbox Cloud Gaming supported by advertising and not tied to Xbox Game Pass. This is a new step in the Xbox strategy, opening the service to a wide audience.
Warren published a screenshot of the service loading with a mention of the possibility to play for an hour after watching an advertisement, which indicates testing or preparation of an advanced version. The model will allow free access to Xbox streaming gaming, likely with a time limit for a single session. The user "pays" by watching ads, but it is not yet known whether the session will be interrupted after an hour or if the ads will appear between sessions.
The introduction of free cloud gaming will make Xbox more accessible, strengthening the cloud as an alternative to consoles and PCs. Microsoft is already expanding the service's compatibility to new devices, including Hisense and TCL Smart TVs.
There is no official announcement yet, but Warren's publications indicate that the company is seriously considering an ad-supported model to expand the Xbox Cloud Gaming audience.
