\"A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms\" Could Become HBO's Longest-Running Project.

Ira Parker, co-creator and executive producer of the series \"A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,\" has shared ambitious plans for the project's future. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he stated that he would like to turn the \"Game of Thrones\" spin-off into a three-decade-long epic, with twelve seasons covering the entire lives of the main characters.

According to Parker, George R. R. Martin told him that he originally intended to write twelve novellas about the adventures of the knight Dunk and his squire Egg, covering approximately fifty years of their lives—up to the tragedy at Summerhall. Currently, only three stories have been published, which will form the basis for the first three seasons of the series, but the showrunner dreams of adapting all twelve.

I would say that HBO’s plan is for us to do the three stories, and that’s it. But I would do 12. Four now, then four more in 10 years, and then four more 10 years after that — following them through their whole lives. Something like [Richard Linklater’s] \"Boyhood,\" only in the world of Westeros.

Although Martin has indeed only written three novellas, he has at least two more in the works, started a year or two ago. According to Parker, he has already received draft outlines from the writer for all twelve stories, outlining the \"major events and key milestones\" in Dunk and Egg's lives. This, in his opinion, allows for building a long-term structure without the risk of repeating the creative problems of the later seasons of \"Game of Thrones.\"

The first season of \"A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms\" premiered on January 18 on HBO Max and was warmly received by viewers and critics. The project is already guaranteed a second season—work on it is underway, but further renewal has not yet been confirmed. It was previously reported that the decision would directly depend on viewer interest.
