Now some players have a "cheap platinum" in their collection.
A special update has been released for Final Fantasy VII Remake with cheat features that players are calling "God mode." The update completely changes the rules of the game, making it easy to earn the coveted "Platinum" trophy (the achievement for collecting all the others).
Usually, cheat features like these disable achievements, but in the case of Final Fantasy VII Remake, that is not so. The official "cheat" allowed players to easily master the content and complete the challenges.
Members of the "Platinum" enthusiast community shared their impressions of the Final Fantasy VII Remake update. They believe this devalues players' achievement and may also discourage developers from creating difficult content (they will see that users start completing it with the help of cheats rather than on their own):
[...] this update makes it so that you will not lose a single battle, you will not be able to die, and most likely you will only need to press X to talk to people. Now it is a walking simulator, so enjoy the absence of pleasure from the gameplay; all that remains is to enjoy the story.
Right, now you can cheat your way to platinum by automatically completing the game. Yeah, that is totally not ***** and not a cheap move, uh-huh.
This is a low blow to those who earned the "Platinum" honestly. If [cheats] are added to Rebirth, I will be furious— I worked so hard to beat the hardest VR missions.
However, not all players who managed to get platinum before the update are outraged — some are calm about it and even welcome the fact that the game's accessibility is increasing:
As someone who got the "Platinum" fairly a long time ago, I understand this indignation. But truthfully, anything that makes games accessible to a wider audience is good, and someone else using these features does not devalue my own journey. I hope this appears in Rebirth as well — it is a game that, in my view, scares some people away with its difficulty, which is sad.
