There is increased attention on the new spin-off, and viewers fear a repeat of the situation where the adaptation outpaces the literary source material.
The series “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” is based on the eponymous cycle of novellas about Dunk and Egg, written by George R. R. Martin. Currently, three novellas have been published. The first season adapts “The Hedge Knight”, the second is already in development, and soon the project will approach the boundary of the published material.
Given the mixed reaction to the finale of “Game of Thrones”, some fans are expressing concerns about the future of the series after the adaptation of existing texts is completed.
Showrunner Ira Parker commented on these concerns during a Q&A session on Reddit. According to him, the risk is indeed present, but it is “less than before”. The creators have additional materials on the universe that allow them to build the further development of the story.
Parker also noted that if the series goes beyond the third novella, George R. R. Martin will be “highly involved” in the process. He previously mentioned that the writer shared rough drafts for approximately ten to twelve future stories about Dunk and Egg, covering their later life, up to the tragedy at Summerhall.
