The color scheme wasn't appreciated by all players.

Fallout 3 caused controversy not only because of the transition from an isometric RPG format to a first/third-person shooter. Not everyone appreciated the color scheme either: the game uses a characteristic "green filter".

During the creation of Fallout 3, Bethesda took the color palette seriously, and there were many disputes about the green color. The developers often had to adjust the correct shade of this color.

As it turned out, the creator of the original Fallout, Tim Cain, simply couldn't notice the developers' efforts when working with green — he's colorblind.

In a conversation with Game Informer, Tim Cain shared his memories of getting acquainted with Fallout 3:

I grew up in the suburbs of Washington, D.C., so when Todd invited me to see Fallout 3 at E3 2008 — this was before release — I was shocked because I thought, "Wow, that's the metro station! And there's the Washington Monument!" And I'm colorblind, so the whole greenish tint thing passed me by.
