The company has to work hard in an "increasingly complex industrial environment" and against the backdrop of economic difficulties.
Sony has announced the closure of Bluepoint Games, a studio known for its remakes and re-releases of cult games. The studio will cease operations next month, with approximately 70 employees losing their jobs. In a comment to Bloomberg, Sony representatives stated that the decision was made "following a recent business review".
Sony acquired Bluepoint in 2021 after years of collaboration on successful remakes and collections for its franchises, including Demon's Souls, Shadow of the Colossus, and Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection. Previously, the studio also worked on Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, God of War Collection, and The Ico & Shadow of the Colossus Collection.
Head of PlayStation Studios Hermen Hulst, in an internal letter to employees published on the ResetEra forum, emphasized that the decision "was not easy". According to him, the company is operating in an "increasingly complex industrial environment": rising development costs, slowing market growth, changing player behavior, and general economic difficulties make sustainable game creation difficult.
