The fight against cheaters continues.
Recently, the authors of the extraction shooter Marathon promised a tough fight against cheaters. Soon, the creators of Arc Raiders spoke out, who have recently been actively criticized for their "soft" attitude towards cheaters.
Embark Studios has released the Shrouded Sky update and a statement — the developers talked about how the anti-cheat system works (it includes several tools, including machine learning):
When we shared the latest update on combating unfair play, we failed to fully convey the complexity and scale of the cheat detection process. Our protection system works on several levels: some checks are simple and give an unambiguous result, while others are based on player behavior and data analysis and improve over time. We also use extensive gameplay telemetry and machine learning techniques to identify patterns that are not always obvious at first glance. These methods take longer to develop, they must adapt as game systems change, and they don't always provide the instant certainty [that a player is a cheater] that more straightforward software checks provide.
The developers of Arc Raiders noted that they have eliminated a number of different exploits and tightened the rules and strengthened their enforcement
Now, serious violations will result in an immediate permanent ban, while [for minor violations] players will receive a temporary ban and one chance to correct their behavior. The recent restriction of the Family Sharing feature has strengthened our ability to limit violations and made it easier to remove unscrupulous players from the game. We are preparing to launch a systematic manual review of ban appeals. The game is new, the amount of telemetry is huge, but this process ensures that each case is carefully considered as we continue to learn quickly and actively invest in the accuracy of our moderation tools.
