Microsoft is preparing to merge Xbox and PC - insider reveals plans

Microsoft recently confirmed a number of details about Xbox Project Helix and simultaneously hinted at a surprise for players. Insider NateTheHate spoke about the company's possible plans.

At GDC, Jason Ronald announced that for the 25th anniversary of Xbox, the team involved in preserving old games will release "icons of the past" that can be played in a new way. The statement sparked discussion, because Microsoft has been actively bringing the Xbox and PC ecosystems closer together for several months.

According to NateTheHate, the backward compatibility team wants to achieve a situation where players can run their digital libraries from the first Xbox and Xbox 360 on PC.

He emphasized that this goal has been discussed within Microsoft for more than a year. That is, it is not a fresh idea for the anniversary, but part of a larger company plan.

This coincides with previous reports about the development of an Xbox legacy game emulator for Windows. Earlier, journalist Jez Corden reported that Microsoft is working on a technology that allows you to run some classic Xbox games directly on Windows devices.

In practice, such a solution may affect not only PCs, but also devices like the ROG Xbox Ally, which Microsoft is gradually including in a common gaming ecosystem approach.

Project Helix is already aimed at launching Xbox and PC games, and Xbox Mode should appear on Windows 11 devices. If the rumor is confirmed, old Xbox digital purchases will be available on computers as well. For fans of the brand, this will be an important step – the library of past generations will begin to live outside the console itself.
