Remedy is leveraging the capabilities of PSSR 2.0 on PS5 Pro, significantly enhancing the visuals of Alan Wake 2. Experts at Digital Foundry have tested the game and note noticeable changes: the project looks much better in performance mode.
Previously, Alan Wake 2 on the first version of PSSR ran at 60 FPS with an internal resolution of 864p, scaling to 4K. This led to issues with details, vegetation, cables, and flickering. According to Digital Foundry, the improved version of PSSR has the greatest effect here.
After the update, forests and dense vegetation look cleaner, the "crawling" of pixels on leaves has disappeared, and the intermediate lighting has become more stable. The overall consistency of the image in motion has improved: the streets no longer "shake" and the scenes seem more stable. Thin lines and cables are still not perfect, but the improvement is noticeable – the material looks more convincing in 4K.
In 30 FPS quality mode, the effect is less pronounced, and ray tracing limitations remain. Digital Foundry emphasizes that PSSR 2.0 does not replace technologies like ray reconstruction – it is an image scaling tool that works with the source material of the game.
