Original The Outer Worlds to be removed from Steam - Obsidian announced new mechanics and other improvements for the remaster
After several years, the developers decided to refine The Outer Worlds Spacer's Choice Edition.
In 2026, Obsidian Entertainment unexpectedly returned to the first The Outer Worlds and the Spacer's Choice Edition remaster. The developers announced the release of an update and plans to release another patch with improvements and new mechanics — grenades will be added to the game:
We will be releasing several updates for The Outer Worlds Spacer’s Choice Edition. The first update is aimed at testing our release pipeline and fixing several issues in the game. The second patch will be larger — it will bring performance improvements, lighting changes, numerous quest and gameplay fixes, and also add a completely new feature to the original game: grenades!
The developers warned that on May 27, the base edition of The Outer Worlds will be removed from sale on PC (Steam) and many other services; going forward, the only available edition of the game will be Spacer's Choice Edition.
However, on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch, the base edition will still be available.
If a player purchases the original The Outer Worlds before this date, they will receive the Spacer's Choice Edition remaster as a gift. This offer is valid not only for PC but also for Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 consoles.
The description of the April update for The Outer Worlds: Spacer's Choice Edition “Patch 2.5.7.0” is available at the following link. It includes many fixes for various bugs and gameplay mechanics.
