Valve came up with a way to fight scalpers of its Steam gamepads
Earlier, the company admitted that the start of sales was problematic.
After a highly successful but chaotic launch of the new Steam Controller, Valve announced the introduction of a device reservation system to combat scalpers and simplify the purchasing process for regular users.
On May 8, at 8:00 PM Moscow time, the so-called reservation queue will open.
Each user will be able to reserve only one controller. When the device becomes available, Valve will send an email notification, after which the buyer will have three days to complete the purchase.
In addition, the company has temporarily restricted the ability to re-reserve for those who have already purchased a controller earlier. Valve's statement says that such users "are not yet eligible to reserve another Steam Controller".
To participate in the queue, two conditions must be met:
- The account must not be blocked
- The user must have made at least one purchase on Steam before April 27, 2026
