Capcom recently confirmed the development of the Resident Evil Code: Veronica remake and unveiled a trailer for the project, now titled Resident Evil Veronica.
During Summer Game Fest 2026, the developers held a press conference where Naoki Hamaguchi answered a number of questions. He noted that while the remake will remain true to the central storyline of the original Code: Veronica, players should expect significant changes in how that story unfolds.
An Insider Gaming journalist who attended the event quoted Naoki: “This is still Claire Redfield’s story first and foremost,” and clarified that Capcom did not disclose specific examples of changes. He suggests that the developers might alter plot emphases and key moments.
According to Naoki Hamaguchi, the developers of Resident Evil Veronica will not cut scenes, but “simply rearrange them.” Players can expect “a lot to be reworked and rethought.”
Resident Evil Veronica will still be a third-person game, like the RE 4 remake, and will not switch to a first-person view.
Naoki said: “This is not a first-person game — it’s only third-person.”
Producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi explained the name change to Resident Evil Veronica (without “Code: Veronica”):
If you look at recent Resident Evil games, you will see that the naming of our projects follows a very clear and expressive naming system. It’s simply “Resident Evil” and one clear or simple word that corresponds to the game. When we chose the name for this remake, we wanted to settle on one word that best reflected the project, and we decided that “Veronica” fit best.
Resident Evil Veronica is scheduled for release in 2027. Capcom has not yet announced a specific release date for the remake. You can add the game to your Steam wishlist via this link.
