"Riot has so many different plans": Ekko's actor talks about the future of "Arcane" and possible spin-offs
Reed Shannon confirmed that work on the League of Legends universe is in full swing, despite the lull in announcements.
Reed Shannon, who voiced Ekko in the animated series "Arcane", spoke about the future of his character in the League of Legends universe. In an interview with The Direct, the actor confirmed that he continues to work with Riot Games on unnamed projects and believes that the company has big plans for the franchise's development.
"Riot is a huge company. They have so many different plans. I'm going back to the studio on Friday to record new lines for Ekko... But this is Ekko from some part of the League of Legends universe – I don't even know which one."
Shannon noted that after the completion of "Arcane", Ekko's story could continue in a variety of formats. According to the actor, the character already has so much material in the game itself that a separate story could be compiled from his lines:
"When we talk about 'Arcane' or possible spin-offs, I always think: 'Just find all of Ekko's lines.' You could make a whole movie about his adventures from that."
Among the concepts he proposed are a story of Ekko's journey through the multiverse in search of Jinx, or a children's educational show where Ekko and Heimerdinger would teach young viewers how to craft inventions. However, the actor does not claim that such projects are in development, but according to him, even while working on the first season of "Arcane", the Riot team told him about the character's long-term future:
"When I first signed on for 'Arcane', the team told me: 'This is something that will likely stay with you for life.' And I hope that one day we will see the story of Ekko and Jinx."
After the completion of the second season of "Arcane", Riot Games continues to develop the animated League of Legends universe, but new projects have not yet been officially presented. Earlier, co-creator of the series Christian Linke said that the studio is actively working on several spin-offs dedicated to other regions of Runeterra.
According to a leak from January 2025, one of the next series may be dedicated to Mel Medarda, her connection to Noxus, and the confrontation between Swain and LeBlanc. However, since then, Riot Games has not revealed new details about this project.
