The game's plot continues the story of Marcus Fenix and Delta Squad, who embark on a massive offensive against the Locust Horde, threatening humanity's last stronghold on the planet Sera. The game significantly expanded the scale of battles compared to the first part, offered a more emotional campaign, new types of weapons and enemies, and for the first time introduced the Horde mode, in which a team of five players repels waves of enemies — it later became one of the main features of the entire series.
