Zach Cregger filled Resident Evil with "perverted and strange images" - the director was given complete freedom
Zach Cregger brought his own vision to life without outside interference.
Zach Cregger, the director of the new Resident Evil adaptation, was given complete creative freedom and final cut rights for the film. In an interview with Empire, the director emphasized that the studio did not try to limit his ideas or interfere with production:
"I was given complete freedom. The final cut is mine. No one interfered with the work or imposed any restrictions."
Cregger used this freedom to fill the adaptation with unusual and disturbing scenes. Some of them viewers have already seen in trailers — for example, a multi-armed woman, falling and exploding bodies of zombies and other creatures. However, the director claims that not everything has been shown:
"Gladys [from their 'Weapons'] was a very specific image. There are some truly insane things in this movie. I don't know if they will have the same effect, but Resident Evil features the most perverted and strange images possible."
Despite the creative freedom, the production of a major blockbuster was not easy for Cregger. The director admitted that the daily necessity of leading a team of 150 people led him to emotional exhaustion. After Resident Evil, he plans to take a multi-year break, although he does not rule out changing his mind later.
The premiere of the new "Resident Evil" will take place in cinemas on September 18, 2026.
