A director has already been found for the new "Star Wars" trilogy - filming to begin in 2027
The films are expected to kick off a new story beyond the Skywalker saga.
Journalist Caleb Williams reported that Lucasfilm has already chosen a director for the new "Star Wars" trilogy, which is being developed by screenwriter and producer Simon Kinberg:
"A small detail... A director has been found for the new "Star Wars" trilogy based on Simon Kinberg's script. Kinberg himself was not considered for the position. Production is rapidly gaining momentum, and filming could begin as early as next year."
The development of the trilogy became known in November 2024. Kinberg, who previously worked on the animated series "Star Wars Rebels," will write the scripts and produce all three films. In early 2026, Kathleen Kennedy said that the author had reworked the plot and prepared a detailed plan of about 70 pages.
Other official details about the new trilogy are not yet available. According to Entertainment Weekly, the films will kick off a new story and will not be a direct continuation of the Skywalker saga. The plot, cast, and release dates have not yet been revealed.
