Fan Remaster of Gears of War: Redux Becomes More Technologically Advanced and Gains 64-bit System Support
In late September, modder PunishedWolf announced the release of update 1.1.3439 for Gears of War: Redux. This is a fan-made remaster mod that aims to revive the classic 2006 shooter. It adds modern features to the project, such as 4K resolution and ultrawide display support, as well as a server browser, split-screen co-op mode, maps from Gears of War 2, and a 50-wave Horde mode.
With update 1.1.3439, Gears of War: Redux gained support for 64-bit operating systems, meaning there are no longer 4 GB RAM limitations for gameplay:
This limitation was the cause of most crashes due to 'out of memory' errors on large maps and during long runs in Horde mode. The launcher automatically selects the correct version, but you can switch back to 32-bit at any time. The 64-bit version requires 64-bit Visual C++ and DirectX libraries – the launcher checks for their presence and will notify you if anything is missing. RTX Remix users are currently advised to remain on the 32-bit version.
In addition, Gears of War: Redux supports NVIDIA DLSS and DLAA technologies (for RTX graphics cards) and AMD FSR (for any graphics cards). The modder also reported that several technical issues have been fixed and a number of maps have been updated.
The Gears of War: Redux modification is distributed free of charge via the ModDB service.
Currently, The Coalition studio is preparing for the release of a full new installment of the Gears of War franchise: E-Day. The regular launch of the game is expected on October 6, but owners of the Premium Edition will be able to jump in five days earlier.
