Valve will relieve Steam users on Linux from manually configuring Proton for Windows games - beta testing of the new feature has begun

News

Valve recently introduced a new beta version of the Steam client. Developers have started testing a feature for users of devices with Linux OS.

Now, Windows applications added to Steam as “third-party games” will launch via Proton by default. Previously, users had to manually select Proton for such projects — thanks to this feature, there will be no need to delve into the settings (if everything launches correctly right away).

In addition, the developers have fixed several bugs, for example:

  • Fixed an issue where the in-game time counter in the Steam library could temporarily display incorrectly.
  • Fixed an issue where the controller could remain in BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) mode after switching, even if the host device could not be found.
  • (Steam Input) On Linux, a bug that prevented “reordering controllers” has been fixed.

A full description of the Steam beta update is available at the following link. Valve did not specify how long it plans to test this version.

Earlier, Steam launched a giveaway of an unusual game from Daniel Mullins Games.
