The creators of RE7 managed to instill real horror in players.
The game director of Resident Evil Requiem is communicating with journalists and gradually revealing production secrets and reasons for some creative decisions.
Recently, Koshi Nakanishi explained why the third-person view appeared in the latest installments of Resident Evil. As it turned out, this is a response to the reaction of some people to RE7 — they found the game too scary:
«…Looking back at the first-person view in Resident Evil 7, I realize that I implemented it to make the game more immersive and scarier than ever before. I think most media representatives and players will agree that it is an incredibly scary game, but perhaps it was too scary.
I think some couldn't handle [the fear] and either couldn't finish the game or didn't even start. And looking back, I now realize that I want to make sure people enjoy this game. If you started with the first-person view and found it too much, then the third-person view is kind of a way to step away from the level of horror a bit and make the game a little easier by presenting the character on the screen as a kind of avatar.»
