Poncle Presents, a publishing house founded on the wave of Vampire Survivors' success, has already released two projects, and Luca Galante has no intention of stopping.
The creator of Vampire Survivors shared his vision of the publishing business in a recent interview with GamesRadar+. According to him, Poncle Presents was created not to maximize profits, but to help more indie games see the light of day.
"I see a lot of publishers that I don't like. They exploit platforms just for money. <...> They release unfinished projects in early access, abandon them, and players are left with broken games. I want to prove that a publisher can be different. <...>"
Poncle Presents has already released two projects. These are Kill the Brickman from Doonutsaur — a roguelike with elements of arkanoid, and Berserk or Die from Nao Games — a two-dimensional action game with the ability to "break the keyboard" if desired. None of the games has come close to the popularity of Vampire Survivors, but this is not a problem for Galante.
"A game can be small or big, but if it has an audience, it deserves fair treatment."
The developer believes that the publisher should first of all help create real products, support them after release and not impose solutions on authors for the sake of microtransactions or "seasonal" content. "I definitely look at the publishing business from the point of view of creating games, and not just making money", he emphasizes.
The idea to create a publishing house came to Galante shortly after the success of Vampire Survivors. He was inspired by the examples of Outersloth and Pocketpair, who also decided to support independent authors. "We learned a lot from Vampire Survivors and now we want to give something back to the community. This is our way of sharing luck", he concluded.
