Silent Hill f received its first major review in the Japanese publication Famitsu, and the results are encouraging for fans. The magazine gave the game an overall score of 36/40, with all four reviewers rating it 9 out of 10.
This is the highest score in the franchise's history, surpassing the original Silent Hill and Silent Hill 2, which scored 34/40, as well as the Silent Hill 2 remake, which received 35/40.
According to Famitsu, one playthrough of Silent Hill f will take 12–13 hours. The review describes the plot as a "tragic and terrifying story set in the Japanese countryside." The setting is described as fresh and unsettling, perfectly reflecting the series' key themes of isolation and fear. The publication noted the visual atmosphere and "beautiful, grotesque" sound design.
Gameplay received mixed but generally positive reviews. The "offering" system, which strengthens the protagonist, is described as engaging, although searching for items sometimes slows down the pace. Battles with parrying and counterattacks stand out for their spectacle, but interacting with objects and moving around can be annoying at times—according to reviewers, this even enhances the feeling of fear. Difficulty levels are limited: only the damage taken changes. At the same time, multiple endings add replay value.
The events unfold in Japan in the 1960s. Players meet the heroine Hinako Shimizu, who confronts monsters and uncovers the secrets of the fog-shrouded town of Ebisugaoka.
The game will be released on September 25, 2025, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
