Technical limitations force creative solutions.

The creators of Norland have presented a new development diary dedicated to the further development of the game. They have compiled a roadmap for the second half of 2025 (autumn-winter).

Plans include:

  • Reform of the knowledge system (introducing a system for employees to acquire applied knowledge);
  • Climate and season system: "different regions will have different growth modifiers and food sources. There will be a middle zone - it will work much like it does now, but in the northern regions, vegetables, trees, more game, berries, and forest grass will grow, and in the south, grains will grow, and there will be more iron"
  • Changes will affect the global map. The developers will implement a system of cultural regions: the player will start in their cultural region, and uniting its provinces will be a relatively simple task, since "peoples generally don't mind uniting under the wing of a strong ruler of their culture." But conquering other regions will be problematic: they will resist, and in some cases, the player will be hated "simply because of old grievances."

The authors of Norland also intend to expand the economy, and their work is influenced by technical limitations:

"...we cannot scale the economy painlessly. Like real cities of the Middle Ages, whose size was limited by the lack of sewage systems (and therefore frequent epidemics and fires), the population of our cities is constrained by processor performance, as our residents have complex AI. Therefore, we will expand not horizontally, but vertically - by complicating and socially evolving."

Roadmap:

This is what the scheme of production and resources looks like, which the authors of Norland are striving for.
