Enemies will analyze the player's behavior and their reactions to certain attacks.
In an interview with PC Gamer magazine, the game director of Phantom Blade Zero spoke about a boss named Huangxing, who, on normal difficulty, includes elements of soulslike with fixed attack combinations that players can learn in battles, but on the maximum Hellwalker difficulty, everything changes radically.
On this difficulty, the AI of Huangxing integrates a mechanic borrowed from fighting games. The boss analyzes the situation, assessing whether he is in an advantageous or disadvantageous position, and chooses attacks accordingly. Liang described it as a "lottery" where the result of the boss's previous attack determines his next move.
