The developers took into account the experience of working on Rogue Trader.
Owlcat Games continues to promote cRPG Warhammer 40,000 Dark Heresy through various platforms. Recently, executive producer Anatoly Shestov spoke with journalists.
He talked about the moral ambiguity of the Warhammer world:
«Traditional stories initially assume a set of predetermined things that are good and evil. Someone before you decided that these actions would change your worldview to the side of good or evil, and the world reacts accordingly. The peculiarity of Warhammer is that these things are so intertwined that no one really understands what is good and what is bad. We are telling a story where you don’t choose between good and evil, but decide what is good and what is bad — maybe killing these innocent people is good at the moment, maybe punishing this villain is evil, because in the future this villain will save millions that the innocent will ruin».
In Dark Heresy, the developers will present investigations. Shestov explained the vision of the system — they are not going to constrain the player:
«The system itself does not require you to play as a detective. From a plot point of view, this happens naturally. We realized that the detective component will allow us to communicate with the player on a different level. It doesn’t just provide facts — you can open an encyclopedia and read them. It’s not just personal experiences — you can open a dialogue and read it. Instead, it is woven into a separate, independent story».
The producer also noted: «We are still very ambitious and crazy, and we are creating a game that we want to play».
