The R-rated «Batman» spin-off will combine elements of superhero cinema and body horror.
The «Clayface» movie, being developed as part of the revamped DC cinematic universe, could become one of the studio's boldest and most unconventional projects. According to actor Max Minghella, the film will not hold back in its demonstration of body horror, and he called the script "amazing."
He also described director James Watkins as the ideal director for such material and noted his attentive approach to working with actors, including discussing even the most minor scenes.
Filming is currently taking place in London. In addition to Max Minghella, who plays the mysterious character named John, Tom Rhys Harries plays the main role in the project. Presumably, he plays Matt Hagen, the second Clayface from the comics.
The plot tells the story of a man who injects himself with an experimental drug to restore his disfigured face. He soon discovers the ability to change the shape of his body as if it were made of clay. However, the new abilities turn into a loss of humanity.
Despite the fact that the film is formally considered a spin-off of «Batman», it is not connected to the cinematic universe where Robert Pattinson plays the role of Bruce Wayne. Instead, «Clayface» will be included in a new line of DC projects called «Gods and Monsters», which also includes «Superman» and the second season of «Peacemaker».
According to rumors, another Clayface, Basil Carlo, may appear in the sequel to «Batman» with Robert Pattinson. There are already hints of this character in the series «Penguin», which is part of the same cinematic universe.
The premiere of «Clayface» in cinemas is scheduled for September 11, 2026.
