Steam Introduces Secure Boot Check and Blocks Game Launches Upon Detecting Unity Vulnerability Exploitation Attempts

Developers are gradually implementing sought-after features in Steam.

Valve has released another update for the Steam client. The developers have responded to reports of a Unity vulnerability and have also made improvements to the browser and more.

Some changes and improvements:

  • Added mitigations for Unity CVE-2025-59489, blocking game launch via the Steam client upon detecting an attempt to exploit the vulnerability.
  • Added a warning about the end of support for 32-bit versions of Windows. Currently, Windows 10 32-bit is the only 32-bit version of the OS supported by Steam - support will be discontinued on January 1, 2026.
  • Added the ability to switch between tabs in the browser with tabs using the CTRL+TAB key combination.
  • (Overlay): Fixed a bug in D3D12 games that could sometimes cause a crash when quickly opening and closing overlay sections (e.g., notes). This could manifest as a game or GPU freeze.
  • (Game Recording): Improved performance when recording is enabled for some games using Vulkan rendering.
  • (Windows): Added a check to see if Secure Boot and TPM features are enabled on the current computer. Information can be accessed via the following path (in the client): "Help" -> "System Information" -> scroll to the "OS Version" section.
