Players accuse the company of greed and do not understand how it is possible to demand money for watching an event that serves as advertising for Street Fighter.

Street Fighter 6 players were confused by Capcom's decision to introduce paid broadcasts for two key fighting game tournaments — Capcom Cup and SFL World Championship.

When a user on X (formerly Twitter) asked how "disconnected the esports department and the development team are from each other" due to such prices, Street Fighter 6 game director Takayuki Nakayama replied that it was due to the different targets that the departments have.

It may sound strange, but yes, the teams are really disconnected. The revenue targets and assigned tasks are radically different in different departments of the company, which leads to such gaps.

Nakayama emphasized that the Street Fighter 6 development team was genuinely surprised by this announcement and apologized to the players.

We in the development team were surprised by this decision (at least Matsumoto and I were shocked). We apologize for any concerns this may have caused.

Capcom recently announced the dates for the prestigious competitions: Capcom Cup 12 will be held on March 14, 2026, and SFL: World Championship — the next day, March 15. However, fans and players were outraged by the news that watching the broadcasts of these tournaments will only be available for a fee. The cost of one stream is 4,000 yen (approximately $27), and a package for both events will cost 6,000 yen (approximately $40).
