Naoki Hamaguchi, game director of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, stated in an interview that Square Enix is facing memory issues while working on the game's version for Microsoft consoles.
The difficulties concern both porting Rebirth (the second part of the remake, originally released in 2024 on PS5) to Xbox, and the third part, which is being created immediately as a multiplatform title.
Hamaguchi likely meant the Xbox Series S, which has less memory compared to the more powerful Xbox Series X and PS5. He noted: "When working on the Xbox version, like many publishers, we encountered memory limitations compared to other platforms."
Despite this, the game director emphasized that the development of the third part of Final Fantasy 7 Remake is going well. Separate teams are working on optimization for each platform, so the multiplatform approach will not slow down the process.
The new part of the remake will be released simultaneously on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2.
