New content is coming soon, but it's not yet clear how players will pay for it.
The creators of the hit ARPG Last Epoch are offering players not only new seasons, but also the Orobyss expansion is in the works.
Game Director of Last Epoch, Judd Cobler, said:
“We are currently working on a roadmap for the development of the season and the expansion, which we will share with you soon. We are just tidying up the schedule and trying to ensure that the season's content is not presented in too much detail, as this may force us to adjust our plans shortly after the announcement (creating a game-service is a very iterative process).”
However, the studio has encountered a problem — they have not yet been able to decide how the Orobyss expansion could be monetized.
Cobler recalled the history of the Last Epoch team:
“Many years ago, when we were a much smaller team formed on Reddit, our goal was not to charge for content, but sales of cosmetic items did not cover our development costs in the long term.
Our studio has grown significantly, and we pay our employees a decent salary. As is proper in an ARPG, our expenses have increased. We are still modeling exactly how the expansion will be monetized, and when a decision is made, we will share it with you immediately.”
